Conditions were mostly light for the start of the 2014 edition of the Lipton Cup. Racing was tight and mostly well executed with the classics and moderns going close to the same speed. Rick Prebel cooked up a sumptuous feast Saturday night at the PMYC which is a trade mark of PSSMA events. The Sunday forecast was for light and variable winds. Initially that was correct with a marine layer mini convergence zone northerly / southerly fighting it out in the bay. Eventually the southerly won out and the final two races were sailed in 10knot Southeasterly requiring the race committee to turn everything around leaving the starting line heavily port favored. This made for some mightily contested starts, but everyone survived unscathed except for the loss of some masthead wind instruments on Frenzy. The Canadians had to miss the last race in an effort to complete their tow to the next venue in Port Townsend in time to catch the last ferry.
